“To make money they didn’t have and didn’t need, they risked what they did have and did need. And that’s foolish. It is just plain foolish. If you risk something that is important to you for something that is unimportant to you, it just does not make any sense – Warren Buffet

I write this in the light of my experiences as a counselor. Honestly, it is difficult to give advice to people. Even when you show them the truth in black and white, they won’t accept it. Many times I have wondered why people will not just believe the truth. Why would a man/woman stick to an untruth? All the signs are bad, yet like Samson in the Bible, they forge on. Painfully, to such, I have learnt to leave them and pray, hoping for the best.

I have made mistakes myself. I have also done foolish things that I wish I could reverse.

When a man who has been to war before talks about it, one expects the inexperienced soldier to listen and learn. You can’t google for answers to all questions of life. A friend once told me of how he advised a certain fellow and the person rejected his candid counsel. Much later, things went wrong and he went to console the fellow concerning his loss only to be told that he didn’t insist enough on the advice he gave initially. Strange world.

It is futile to talk about wisdom to a man consumed with staring at the mirror instead of the window

All he sees is himself and what he is worshipping

All he knows is that the worthless marbles of his reasoning are more precious than all the gold in Ghana

To a deceived man, forethought is an alien virtue.

+++++++++++++++++++++

Why waste your wisdom on a full-time lost cause

Who believing a lie, is relaxed in the vacuum of deceit

There, he feeds fat on traveller’s tales

Making all waves of truth demonstrated before him an inconvenient intrusion.

He is on the island of vanity

Connected to a paranormal community whose truth he celebrates

Believing that all he knows is all there is to know

Till life shows him the ridiculousness of the untenable.

+++++++++++++++++++++

So allow him to continue to float about in his balloon of illusion

He expects to land in a self-created seventh heaven

Soon reality shall dawn and the hopes of the unwise will volatilize

Then shall he realise that all that glitters as gold may not even make the cut as brass.

Experience they say is the best teacher, some live by this code and no matter how one tries to talk them out of something except they experience it they never listen or change
It is very sad when one sees a friend or loved one headed to disaster and cannot do anything because the fellow won’t listen to counsel

    The ability of man to learn from peoples mistake and quickly readjust his mind set matters a lot.

Jas 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

That’s the irony about life and humans. Most times, people already have a mind set or taken a decision before asking for counsel. When you don’t validate what they have in mind or decision, they just go ahead with their mind set or decision. When things eventually goes against their decision or mind set, I wonder why they asked for counsel in the first place.

    You are right. It’s mind boggling at times.

Truth is, people would still do what they want to do at the end of the day. Only thing we can do is advise, everyone should be ready and responsible for the consequences of their actions when they don’t heed to advice
