I was inspired to write this poem when I came across a quote by MURIEL RUKEYSER an American Poet. She said “What would happen if one woman told the truth about her life? The world would split open… “. It got me thinking of many things especially in the areas of the sex marks/sex for promotion saga that rocked the Nigerian ivory towers recently. From that quote, I penned this poem.

Read and enjoy it.

What would happen if a woman told the truth about her life?

Life would change dramatically

Suspicions, accusations, rumbles will run through mankind

Sacred marriages and institutions may break

She is lying; she is not lying, unending verbal blizzards and denials will commence.

——–____——–____—-_____

What would happen if a woman told the truth about her inlaws?

Battle of blood against blood may begin

Men will stand by their wives

Men will not stand by their wives.

There will be men who will never forgive or forget.

What would happen if a woman told the truth about her friends?

Fire hotter than that of hell would burn

Tongues will become daggers and spears

Long-standing friendships may die

What will be broken may remain irreparable until Eternity comes.

Daughters, Sisters, Aunties and Mothers

To speak out is wisdom

Not to speak is also wisdom

Whether you are believed or not; no one can say what happened to you didn’t happen.

There will be “gbas gbos” if you speak.

There will be “gbas gbos” if you remain silent

So what is the right thing to do?

Think, then do as occasion demands to heal your pains.

SELAH.

Speaking out to the right people brings healing. Bottled up emotions may erupt like volcano and do more damage.

In our society, when people speak out they are labelled liars, attention seekers and blamed for whatever happened to them. So it makes a lot of people keep to their self. Nevertheless I believe in speaking out and making yourself free instead of carrying it in your chest and bearing grudges.

    Gbam. Solid talk.

Addressing issues with wisdom as they come is better. Keeping grudges or holding on to grudges has never helped and will never help anyone. I believe we should stay with peace at all times.

Yes o, peace is the most pertinent.

I feel there are times you speak and there are times silence is golden,I pray the Lord will give us wisdom to discern what to do at the right time.

Hmmm, their are truth that must be told because of tomorrow, but their truth that must die forever as a secret because knowing will cause slots of heads to roll, so God give us wisdom to do the right things.

Communication is vital. Words spoken can make or break a relationship. Wisdom is key.

Words are like an egg,, once broken, it near impossible to gather it back. Thanks for commenting
