How can I forget the dazzling night lights of the Marina
Or of Camel riding in the desert
Beautiful concrete jungles everywhere
I strayed off course whilst counting skyscrapers and stars.
Burj Khalifa towers above all
Admired by everyone in the land of many firsts
Exquisite interiors built to wow and please kings and queens
I dreamt I was served CHATEAU MARGAUX 1787 in an Imperial glass there.
Burj Al Arab another wonder
Majesty sailing in the Arab winds
How I wish I could touch you with my hands
I ended up touching you with my heart.
Beautiful and charming
Are the dancing fountains of Dubai
Like a lady besieged by many suitors
I joined the crowd to seek your hand.
Your choreographed dancing got me confused
Which should I love, the dance or your beauty
Finally when the music and the dancing stopped
I joined the crowd in screaming, “do the belly dance again”.
What of the floral Miracle garden
I heard all who propose there never get a “no”
Proceed from there to the Land of Jimerah
The City of palms whose beaches now lovingly harass me in my dreams.
I would be back someday my Arabian beauty
The land of my Father’s beckon to me
Where hot “amala” and “abula” is always ready in the afternoon
Nothing beats Iya Sunkanmi’s “ofada” rice and peppered goat stew in the night.
