Man: The enemy of creation.

Nne ewu the nanny goat gave birth to some kids

Among them was Nwa ewu the restless.

He was so-called because he would not sit still

Everything was fun to him…..” we are here to enjoy his popular mantra”.

*******************************

Immediately the day breaks

Prancing and jumping, off he goes

Beware of men Nne ewu kept warning him

It’s better to get run over by the noisy iron animals than to incur the wrath of men.

*******************************

Nwa ewu would not listen

They feed us, they house us, what more does she want, he mused?

They even open the pen in the morning and let us out when the wolves are gone

When I grow up, “I will chew my cud differently and won’t be narrow-minded like Nne ewu” He concluded.

*******************************

A day came, a certain youth threw a stone at random

It flew over the fence and hit nwa ewu the restless

Broke his leg and left him with a hobble

In anger, he head-butted the stone, vowing to crush it in revenge.

*******************************

Nne ewu came and restrained him

“Ndo, the enemy is not the stone” she told him

“It’s the human that threw it without a thought”

“They drove us here, by burning down our homes in the forest”

“They feed us so they may eat us she concluded”.

*******************************

“They do so to their own kind too”

“They abort their babies at will”

“Eat and throw away excess food ignoring their hungry neighbors”

“Throw plastics and pump chemicals into the river so our neighbors the fishes can eat, become sick and die”

“Even the birds are complaining that flying is no more safe and there are no more tall trees to nest and sharpen one’s beak on”.

*******************************

“Selfish at heart” are the sons of men

“Unforgiving and hateful in conduct”

“Never helpful except for gain”

“Using each other and destroying what they don’t understand is their end game”.

*******************************

“The grass doesn’t taste right anymore” she continued

“The chemicals they spray is the reason why”

“I don’t bleat much these days because my throat hurts”

“In the years gone by, our fathers had jet black coat but ours is going grayish because men are manipulating our hormones”.

*******************************

“So sit still so you can heal Nwa m”

“Study men but never learn their ways”

“Eat a little at a time so you won’t grow too quickly”

“Lest what made your uncles and cousins disappear befalls you ahuru m gi n’anya”.

Nwa Ewu is just beginning to learn the lesson of life. Man is destroying nature. Nature too has its way of retaliating. With this lock down, I’ve noticed less environmental pollution. I’m sure the earth, the sea and the air, they are all happy. Less sooth in PH too. Good write up.

Wonderful poem about the goat especially the baby goat. The baby goat will grow, learn and understand life in all ramifications. The lesson will help it on the journey of life.
